Wider Horizons is Lethbridge Polytechnic’s community and alumni magazine.
Launched in 2007 as part of the institution’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the publication is dedicated to educating, engaging and delighting its readers through compelling stories and images that reflect the polytechnic’s people, places, ideas and experiences.
The publication has won multiple awards, including gold in the CASE Circle of Excellence awards program for community post-secondary magazines. It has also won gold awards from the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association in the profile and service journalism categories and was named Alberta Magazine of the Year for 2024-25.
Wider Horizons is edited by Lethbridge Polytechnic graduate Tina Karst (Communication Arts – Broadcast Journalism 2005). Tina joined the polytechnic in January 2022 as the institution’s media relations specialist following a 15-year career in radio news. In July 2024, she transitioned into the role of senior writer and editor in chief of Wider Horizons. Ever a fan of a good news story, Tina (and the entire Wider Horizons team) aims to share – in every issue – stories that will resonate with and inspire readers.
Wider Horizons is delivered to alumni mailboxes and distributed around campus and in the community each October and May.
