Our three-year Powerline Technician Apprenticeship will prepare you for a hands-on career in the power industry. You’ll gain the required experience to be a successful technician, learn safety practices and master foundational skills in the utility electrical field. You'll spend seven weeks per year on campus focusing on theory and the remainder learning on the job from a qualified journeyperson.

Why should you study Powerline Technician Apprenticeship at Lethbridge Polytechnic?

At Lethbridge Polytechnic, you’ll learn from our knowledgeable and experienced instructors, receiving 630 instructional hours throughout your apprenticeship. You’ll be ready to climb to new heights to maintain and install powerlines, while also completing your first two years of power systems electrician. You’ll learn important safety and equipment training, the math and science of electrical and transformer theory, and the mechanics of overhead line construction. Upon completion of your program, you’ll have the skills to work for a variety of powerline industry service providers and start your career.

Courses

Apprenticeship programs require eight to ten weeks of classroom training each year in addition to on-the-job training.
