Be ready to rev up your career

Develop the confidence to repair any vehicle through a mix of on-the-job training, technical experience and theory in this four-year apprenticeship. You’ll spend 80 per cent of your time with a qualified service technician at your workplace. The remainder of time you’ll be learning from skilled instructors in our classrooms and shops, training on the same industry-standard equipment you’ll use on the job.

Our state-of-the-art Crooks School of Transportation facility features well-maintained training equipment and professional instructors with substantial industry experience. You’ll learn to diagnose, repair and complete preventive maintenance on automotive vehicles and light trucks. Your training will give you the confidence to advise customers on work to be performed, general vehicle condition and repair requirements. Classroom theory and hands-on training will prepare you for a career in automotive repair shops, service facilities, car and truck dealerships or vehicle fleet operators.

Academic Requirements
  • Successful completion of English 20-2, Math 20-3 and Science 10, or a passing mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) tests, or entrance exam.
  • English 30-2, Math 30-3, Physics 30 or Chemistry 30 or Science 30 and related career and technology studies recommended.

Delivery Formats

The Automotive Service Technician program is an apprenticeship program delivered face-to-face on campus but may have some blended and hyflex components.

Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship programs require eight to 12 weeks of classroom training each year in addition to on-the-job training. You’ll work with an employer and our experienced instructors to gain the best of both worlds as you work and earn money while training.

On Campus

This program is delivered in a face-to-face format on the main Lethbridge Polytechnic campus. Lectures, labs and hands-on training opportunities will all take place on campus in Lethbridge.
