Lethbridge College is throwing open its doors and welcoming everyone to see what it can offer during tomorrow’s fall Open House. A variety of displays and activities will showcase the many different academic programs, student services, student activities and organizations available on campus.

“Open House provides a unique opportunity to look into the offerings of Lethbridge College on a personal level,” says Justin Quintin, Lethbridge College’s Recruitment manager. “Students who may be looking for a program at Lethbridge College are able to chat one-on-one with program instructors, take a tour of campus, tour residence, apply on the spot, talk with an academic advisor, explore all the support services offered for students and peek into some of the labs and classrooms they will be taking classes in.”

The college will also be using the Open House to launch Career Coach, an exciting new web tool designed to help current and prospective students discover the career and college program that’s right for them. Career Coach provides students with a wide array of data on wages, employment and job postings specific to southern Alberta and beyond. It also includes information on each of Lethbridge College’s more than 50 programs.

“Career Coach is one more resource that helps students explore career opportunities and match those careers to the programs of interest at Lethbridge College,” says Brian Freeman, Lethbridge College’s Marketing and Web Services manager. “One intrinsic value is that it really sheds light on the education or training required to reach their goals. In addition to all of the information available on the site, it also includes tools like a resume builder and a “Hot Jobs” section that allows students to see which careers are high paying and growing in their region.”

Kiosks will be set up at the Open House where college representatives will be demonstrating all of Career Coach’s potential benefits.

“There are real-world considerations that students need to consider when they are thinking of enrolling in a program,” says Quintin. “Things like average wages, the number of people employed in the field and whether the industry outlook is growing or declining. This program puts that information at their fingertips.”

The fall Open House runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. Prospective students who register to attend in advance, as well as check-in at the registration table on the day of the event, will have their names entered to win a $1,500 tuition credit.

Full details about the Open House are available on the Lethbridge College website.
