The Lethbridge Polytechnic community offers its heartfelt congratulations to William Singer III (Api’soomaahka/Running Coyote) on being named the 2026 recipient of the Alberta Museums Association's Lieutenant Governor's Award.
A valued friend of the polytechnic, Singer is always willing to share his knowledge, creativity and cultural teachings with students, employees and the broader community.
Among his many contributions is the polytechnic’s traditional Buffalo Winter Count Robe, unveiled in 2023. The robe serves as a powerful visual record of the institution's history and reflects the Blackfoot tradition of storytelling through art. Singer also partnered with the polytechnic in 2021 on the creation of the Iissksiniip (Coming to Know and Learn) Coulee Walk, an interpretative self-guided tour that explores the traditional plants found in the area, explains their uses and shares some of the traditional creation stories of the Siksikaitsitapi, the Blackfoot Confederacy.
His artistic vision is also reflected in Founders' Square, a space in the heart of campus dedicated to telling the story of the land where the polytechnic now sits.
“William’s knowledge, teachings and artistry have brought a deeper understanding of Blackfoot culture, history and ways of knowing to our polytechnic community. We are grateful for his many contributions to Lethbridge Polytechnic and proud to celebrate his well-deserved honour.”
The Lieutenant Governor's Award recognizes the significant contributions Singer has made to southern Alberta, and Lethbridge Polytechnic joins the many organizations and communities that have benefited from his knowledge and creativity in celebrating this incredible honour.
