The Lethbridge Polytechnic flag will be lowered until April 14 to honour Dean Gallimore, chair of the University of Lethbridge Board of Governors, who passed away April 6.
Gallimore was a business leader and a respected professional accountant who spent 28 years with local accounting firm KPMG. A ULeth alumnus and member of the board since October 2019, Gallimore became the university’s 11th board chair in June 2022.
“Over the last couple of years, I had the sincere privilege of engaging with Dean in various capacities and meetings,” says Mike Marcotte, chair, Lethbridge Polytechnic Board of Governors. “I was always grateful for his calm perspective and his ability to rise above the noise, keeping sight of what truly mattered – collaboration, community impact and the long-term vision for education across the province. His support during our transition to Lethbridge Polytechnic was pivotal and a reflection of his broader commitment to strengthening Alberta’s entire post-secondary landscape.”
“Dean was an extraordinary leader, a wise and compassionate advisor, and a man of great integrity,” says Dr. Brad Donaldson, Lethbridge Polytechnic President and CEO. “His dedication to the University of Lethbridge, and to post-secondary education across Alberta, was unmatched. I had immense respect for the way he led – always with humility, thoughtfulness and a steadfast commitment to serving others.”
A celebration of Gallimore's life will be held at 2 p.m., May 23 at the University of Lethbridge Science Commons Atrium. For details see his obituary.
