History is in the making this week, as the first graduates of Lethbridge Polytechnic get set to cross the stage at Spring 2025 Convocation.
Ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
With the institution’s transition from college to polytechnic last summer, this spring’s convocates will be the first to receive a parchment bearing the Lethbridge Polytechnic name.
“Our evolution into a recognized polytechnic has been the hallmark of the Class of 2025,” says Registrar Marko Hilgersom. “They have lived through the brand change, bought the new polytech hoodies, and they’ll be the first to receive our redesigned parchment. The campus community congratulates all graduates on this achievement, and we look forward to seeing how they will shape the future with skill, heart and purpose.”
Lethbridge Polytechnic will also recognize Indigenous graduates at an Honour Night Thursday in the Garden Court Restaurant. The evening event will bring Indigenous graduates and their families and friends together for food, gifts, speeches and more.
More than 1,300 students are receiving degrees, diplomas or certificates from the polytechnic this month, and approximately 750 of them are expected to cross the stage Friday.
The morning ceremony will honour graduates from the Centre for Health and Wellness, the Centre for Justice and Human Services and the Centre for Trades and Technologies. The afternoon ceremony will celebrate graduates from the Centre for Business, Arts and Sciences.
A highlight of the day will be the recognition of the valedictorian Abigayle Terrill, who is graduating from the Agriculture Sciences – Agronomy program. She will lead the procession of graduates and speak at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
Each ceremony will also be livestreamed at lethpolytech.ca/convocation.
