More than 80 southern Alberta employers will be at Lethbridge College on Thursday for a career fair.

Free for Lethbridge College students and alumni, the event will give attendees the opportunity to explore summer job or career options, ask questions of employers and distribute resumes.

“We’re seeing a strong interest from employers who want to connect with our students before they graduate,” says Dr. Kenny Corscadden, vice president research and partnerships and interim vice president academic. “Not only is Thursday’s career fair an excellent opportunity for students to network, it’s also a great chance for employers to build relationships and encourage graduates to continue living and working in southern Alberta.”

The career fair will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium A and in Centre Core.

There will also be three panel sessions in The Cave (CE1300):

  • Life after LC: Learn from our Alumni – Lethbridge College alumni will speak about their career journeys after graduation. Alumni panelists will answer questions about their transition from school to the workforce and share how they prepared to make that transition.
  • Career Conversations: Learn what Employers are Looking for – Local employers will discuss how to make a good first impression, share what they are looking for in a candidate’s resume and give advice on how to ace an interview.
  • Leveraging Work-Integrated Learning to Propel your Career – Attendees will hear about work-integrated learning and how it can advance a student’s education and career prospects while they are still in school. Instructors, students and employers will be on hand to talk about their experiences and the benefits of integrating meaningful work experiences. Approximately 96 per cent of Lethbridge College programs have a work-integrated learning component.

Employers will also have opportunities throughout the day to conduct on-the-spot interviews with potential candidates.

“We hosted a handful of pre-workshops leading up to this event, where students could get support with resume building and interview skills and learn what questions to ask employers,” says Kristen DeMone, Work-Integrated Learning Office and Regional Stewardship manager. “We wanted to ensure they put their best foot forward when meeting with employers this week.”

In lieu of a registration fee, participating employers were asked to make a monetary or non-perishable food item donation to the Lethbridge College Students’ Association Food Bank.
