The top eight women’s volleyball programs in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) will be making their way to Lethbridge College next week for the 2024 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championships presented by Alpine Drywall Ltd.

The first round of championships starts with quarter final games on Thursday Feb. 22.

Prior to the tournament, the student-athletes will gather at the Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge for a championship banquet where awards – including Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and All-Conference Teams – will be announced.

“For the first time in college history, we are hosting the ACAC women’s volleyball championships, and that’s very exciting for the Kodiaks and the college,” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks Athletics Director. “The Kodiaks went on a late season run of winning six matches in a row to earn their spot in the championships, and we hope that momentum carries over into the tournament. This will be some of highest college-level women’s volleyball to ever be played in the Val!”

Home court for the Kodiaks, the Val Matteotti Gymnasium has a capacity of 2,000 spectators and it is a major point of pride for Kodiaks Athletics and Lethbridge College. Along with the new court design unveiled in fall 2022, which incorporates many Indigenous elements including the Kodiaks new Indigenous logo, the gym seating has also been upgraded for spectators.

The winner of the championships will qualify to compete in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Championship hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic March 6 to 9.

Championship information, including game results and recaps, will be available on the ACAC website.
