It’s back! The award-winning Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks Coke Cake Bake-off is returning for the 2024 holiday season.
“The Coke Cake bake-off and decorating contest is a fantastic opportunity to welcome students, alumni and our community to connect with Lethbridge Polytechnic for a festive and friendly competition,” says Taylor Bourret, Engagement coordinator. “This event has become a cherished holiday tradition at the polytechnic, bringing people together to celebrate the season in a delicious way.”
Interested bakers can register before noon on Dec. 2 to ensure the availability of their cake kit by visiting lethpolytech.ca/holiday-bakeoff-register-2024.
Kodiaks Coke Cake kit pickup will occur between 5 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 2 near the south entrance of the Trades, Technologies and Innovation Facility, under the overhang. Bakers can bring their families to meet Santa and pose for free holiday photos, enjoy live carolling, and warm up with a bonfire and a free hot cocoa and apple cider bar.
“We are also thrilled to be adding the Coca-Cola Canada Holiday Truck to the festivities,” says Bourret. “The Holiday Truck is Santa’s iconic way of delivering joy and optimism from coast-to-coast with twinkling lights, festive decorations and plenty of photo opportunities.”
The event is free and open to everyone, but donations to the Lethbridge Polytechnic Students’ Association Food Bank are encouraged.
The cake kit is similar to previous years in that all dry ingredients are included, pre-mixed and pre-measured, and feature a can of Coca-Cola. Participants are encouraged to be creative when decorating their cake but are asked to follow either a Coca-Cola or Kodiaks theme.
Bakers must submit a photo of their showpiece online by 11:59 p.m., Dec. 20 at lethpolytech.ca/holidaybakeoff. Voting takes place from Dec 23 to Jan. 6. Anyone can vote for their favourite cake by visiting lethpolyte.ch/holiday-bake-off-voting.
The winner will be announced on Jan. 8 and awarded a brand-new KitchenAid mixer and newly branded Lethbridge Polytechnic swag.
In partnership with Coca-Cola, the Kodiaks Coke Cake Bake-off was previously an alumni engagement activity that expanded to include the public. Coca-Cola has a long history of supporting Lethbridge Polytechnic, including contributions to Alumni Engagement, the School of Culinary Arts, Kodiaks Athletics, the Kodiak House residence project and student awards.
