Researchers at Lethbridge College are excited to welcome close to 200 people from the agriculture, food and bioengineering industries to campus next week for the national conference and Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Society for Bioengineering/La Société Canadienne de Génie Agroalimentaire et de Bioingénierie (CSBE/SCGAB).
This is the first time a Canadian college has hosted the event, which will run from Sunday, July 23 to Wednesday, July 26. Leading the effort to bring the event to the region is Dr. Chandra Singh, Senior Research Chair in Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Lethbridge College, who is the CSBE/SCGAB Alberta Regional Director and chair of the 2023 AGM organizing committee.
“We look forward to welcoming guests from all over Canada to southern Alberta, which is at the centre of Canada’s premier food corridor – with 4.2 million acres of farmland, 1.3 million acres of irrigated land and several global food companies,” says Singh. “We are excited to showcase the region’s robust agri-food ecosystem and innovation and collaboration opportunities, and connect with fellow CSBE/SCGAB members, researchers, scientists, engineers and industry partners to discuss the future of agricultural sustainability in the region.”
The CSBE/SCGAB is a technical society of nearly 600 members across Canada interested in scientific and engineering principals for the sustainable production of food, bioproducts and bioenergy.
The conference and AGM will include several speakers, technical information sessions, a virtual reality (VR) workshop and events at the Lethbridge College Research Farm. In addition, participants will take a technical tour of on-campus research facilities including VR labs, the Advanced Post-harvest Technology Centre, the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence, and the Centre for Sustainable Food Production greenhouse.
