Lethbridge College’s popular Coulee Fest returns one month from today, and attendees will notice a distinct county fair feel to the celebration.

In addition to Coulee Fest staples such as live music, family activities, food trucks, beer gardens and a marketplace, this year’s event will include county fair themed entertainment such as a competitive eating competition, “pony hop” racing, wagon rides and a heavy equipment show and shine.

“Coulee Fest is about community and celebrating Lethbridge College’s role in not just the city, but all of southern Alberta,” says Stephanie Savage, Alumni Engagement manager and Coulee Fest organizer. “That’s what a county fair does, it brings everyone together in one place in the spirit of celebration. We are looking forward to showing off our new-look Coulee Fest next month.”

Coulee Fest is a free event for the whole family that will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 18.

For the first time, a competitive eating competition will be part of the festivities. Teams of two will tackle some creative food challenges in the Kodiak Beast Feast, where they will have to eat a variety of foods that make up the typical diet of a bear. Those interested in taking part will be able to register in advance through the Coulee Fest webpage beginning Aug. 23.

For those who are less competitive about their eating, at least a dozen food trucks will be on site, while refreshments will be served in the Hudsons Beer Gardens. Attendees can also hop aboard a wagon ride that will take them around the college’s campus and the edge of the coulees; check out the heavy duty equipment used by the college in its trades and apprenticeship programs; take in live concerts on the 1st Choice Savings and Credit Union Stage by Nova Scotiables, Waterfront, Eric Braun and The Band Formerly Known as Karen, Lewis and Pam; and participate in a variety of family-friendly activities, including visits with princesses and Superman.

“There really is something for everyone at Coulee Fest,” says Savage. “But the best part is that we’re able to be together and celebrate our community. I hope everyone is able to join us on Sept. 18!”

Vendors interested in being a part of the Coulee Fest Marketplace can contact alumni@lethpolytech.ca.
