Souper Connection Day is all about wellness

Three back-to-back events by Lethbridge College’s Wellness Services and the International Student Support Services will make for a “souper” way for college students to engage in conversation about mental health and feed both body and soul. These opportunities to build meaningful connections for mental health are supported by funding from the Alberta Advanced Education Post-secondary Student Mental Health Grant. All of these activities will be held in the International Student Lounge (TE1229) which is, as always, open to all students.

  • Lethbridge College welcomes back Art with Impact’s Movies for Mental Health program for a second year. All students and employees are welcome to attend this event from noon to 2 p.m. Three short movies about mental health will be shown and discussed. A panel will help get the conversation started. David Gabert from Canadian Mental Health Association is a participating facilitator and would be available for interviews before or after. This is a partnership of the
  • Uni-TEA runs from 2:30 to 4 p.m. This is a chance for students and staff to connect over a cup of tea, snacks and conversations. There will be ice breaker activities at the start to help people connect, as well as activities like puzzles, colouring books and board games for anyone wanting to take a mental health break. The tea was donated by the Lethbridge College Students’ Association.
  • Soup, Games and Conversations runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Drop in for a bowl of soup and play board games with fellow students and staff. Games such as Mancala, Operation, Sorry, Connect4, Dutch Blitz and Uno will be available, along with puzzles and other activities. You can even bring your own favourite game with you to share.

A great place to connect – over food in the kitchen

Lethbridge College’s Residence and Student Life teams will kick off a series of three Connect in the Kitchen events in the 30th Avenue Residence Hall. Subsequent events are planned March 17 and March 24. This is a chance for invited students to meet new people and connect over a delicious meal. A cooking lesson will be provided, and each week will feature a different dish. Today’s dish is Indian cuisine. Up to 10 students will be part of the meal prep and the cooking before, of course, enjoying the meal together. This event is made possible by the Alberta Advanced Education Post-secondary Student Mental Health Grant because we know connecting with others is important to mental health, and connecting over food adds a delicious dimension.

Thursday, March 12, 7 to 8:45 p.m.

World-renowned cave diver comes to campus

Lethbridge College Wider Horizons speaker series invites you to An Evening with Jill Heinerth, a world-renowned cave diver, explorer, writer, photographer and filmmaker. Heinerth’s multimedia presentation is open to the public. Tickets are available online for $25, or $20 for students and Lethbridge College alumni. A free session just for LC students is planned at 1:30 p.m. Heinerth shares the lessons she’s learned during years of extreme underwater exploration and how those lessons can be applied to daily life in terms of risk management, discovery learning, failure and collaboration strategies. Wider Horizons “An evening with…” is Lethbridge College’s community speaker series that celebrates diverse stories and perspectives from world-renowned speakers. This series aims to educate its attendees, engage the community and provide opportunities for thoughtful dialogue on issues important to our students and community. A generous donation from Lethbridge philanthropist Bruce McKillop led to the creation of this speaker series in 2019.
