What are the skills that make for a successful career? Beyond the hard skills needed to succeed in any chosen industry, what are the underlying factors that make for successful individuals? And how can you translate them to your own career?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed at Lethbridge College’s first Be Career Ready: Learn from our Alumni panel discussion. This free event is designed to connect prospective students, current students and recent graduates with Lethbridge College alumni whose determination, grit and perseverance have elevated them to become leaders in their chosen fields.

The one-hour, online event takes place at 11 a.m on May 26. While designed for prospective students, current students and recent graduates, it is open to anyone interested in discussing career development.

“We have heard from our students that they need career support – especially at this time,” says Stephanie Savage, Lethbridge College Alumni Engagement coordinator. “Students want to hear from those who have taken the same journey they are embarking on and who have come out successful on the other side. We have a high level of expertise within our alumni community, and we think this is an excellent opportunity to connect our students with that expertise.”

The panelists include four alumni who are in various stages of their chosen careers, including:

  • Quinn Campbell (Communication Arts 2007), video journalist for Global Lethbridge
  • Joshua Day Chief (Environmental Assessment and Restoration 2013), CEO of AdvancedAg Inc.
  • Matt Pigeau (Practical Nursing 2014), practical nurse and clinical instructor at Chinook Regional Hospital and clinical instructor in Lethbridge College’s practical nursing program
  • Caylee Vogel (Business Administration 2016), program administrator at Lethbridge College’s Be Fit for Life Centre

The moderated discussion allows participants to ask questions of the panelists, either submitted ahead of time or live during the event.

“From the career interests they had growing up, all the way to how they arrived in their current professions, these alumni will share how their experiences at Lethbridge College have helped them to achieve professional and personal success,” says Savage. “They’ll provide first-hand knowledge and candid commentary on the future of their industries and the realities facing the workforce of today.”

The event is free, but pre-registration is required. A recorded version of the discussion will be available for everyone following the event.
