Cheryl Ritzen from Lethbridge College Recreational Services offers eight ways you can focus on your health and wellness while at home.

It is important to stay positive during these times and put your energy into what we can control. Cheryl Ritzen from Recreational Services says if you do have health and fitness goals, now is the perfect time to get started or continue to work towards them. Most individuals have a hard time being compliant on a new diet because of the many social obligations and functions we attend. Look at this as a perfect opportunity to dial into your nutrition and yes, even your fitness goals.
Here are tips to help you reach your full potential while under these conditions:

  1. Workout with a purpose. Whatever workout program you are following, it should be more than a good sweat session. Find a program that fits your goals and progresses week to week.
  2. Meals should contain one serving of protein, carbohydrates, fat, and vegetables for women. Men should double these portions.
  3. Drink at least 2.5 litres of water throughout the day.
  4. Eat every three to four hours. To stop the boredom eating, start a timer from when you finish your last meal to three or four hours after. This tool helps to kick the habit of snacking throughout the day.
  5. Get at least 10,000 steps in each day .
  6. Establish a daily routine.
  7. Prep meals ahead of time even if you are spending your day at home.
  8. Get outside. Breathe in fresh air and think of things you are grateful for.

Though we are in a state of unknown, there are areas in our life each one of us can focus on improving. Let’s come out of this pandemic stronger and healthier. For more information or for help reaching your fitness or nutrition goals, contact Cheryl Ritzen.
