We’re getting a jump on our November Blood Drive
The month of November is Lethbridge College’s annual Blood Drive. We want our college community to Be Ready to Save Lives. November may still be a few days away, but we can’t wait. Our partners from Canadian Blood Services will be on campus in Centre core offering a blood typing service and information about the life-saving gift we can give. This will be the first of seven opportunities in the coming weeks featuring the Canadian Blood Services on campus.

Moccasin making workshops offered to students
Lethbridge College Indigenous Services will hold a moccasin-making workshop. Two sessions are being offered this week in the Niitsitapi Gathering Place (AN1801). Registration is closed because both sessions are full. These workshops would make for interesting photos or video as our students learn this practical and wearable art. Then watch for Rock Your Mocs, a day inviting all students to wear their moccasins to campus and participate in an Indigenous culture event Nov. 13.

If you work in IT, this session is for you
Lethbridge College’s School of Information Technology invites students and information technology professionals to attend an information session with Ken Baker, President of the Alberta/Northwest Territories division of the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS). The society is an association of IT professionals and establishes standards for those working in the industry. Baker will meet with students in the Computer Information Technology program in the afternoon before holding a public session at 6 p.m. in the Instructional Building Theatre (IB1102). The open session is for anyone who works in IT or whose company has an IT department or outsource IT functions. Come to learn about the profession and the society’s work.

Going above and beyond for Halloween
One of the most impressive and best-kept secrets in Halloween displays can be found at Lethbridge College year after year. The staff of the Registrar’s Office spend months of their own time planning a theme, sets and costumes for Halloween, all to bring smiles to the faces of students and staff for a single day. While staff in other departments also decorate and come in costume, the Registrar’s Office is where this Lethbridge College tradition began. Pop by for photos and video and a story about the team effort that creates this spooky magic. If you come around 10 a.m., you might also be treated to children from the campus daycare touring campus in their costumes.

Scare off the flu for Halloween
Here’s a scary thought for Halloween. In 2018-2019, 92 people died and more than 3,000 Albertans were admitted to hospital with lab-confirmed influenza. You can improve your odds of avoiding the flu by getting a free vaccination at a drop-in clinic in TE1228. This clinic is organized by Lethbridge College Wellness Services. There’s one more free clinic at Lethbridge College planned Nov. 7.

Be ready to save lives
Lethbridge College is a proud partner of Canadian Blood Services. Our 12th annual blood drive runs through the month of November. That means we’ll be encouraging our employees to make an appointment to donate, holding information sessions in Centre Core, offering free blood typing, and serving iron-rich meals in our Food Court. We’re all in. If you want a feature on iron-rich cooking, a story on why donation is important, or the difference our team makes through donation, please contact us. Don’t forget, we’re teaching and training a next generation of nurses, police and other first responders. This cause hits very close to home for our students and our staff. The college earned the Regional Partner Award for the Prairie Region at the annual Honouring Canada’s Lifeline event in Ottawa in September and we’re not done!

Wine auction promises elegant evening to remember
The 29th annual Clayton Allan Wine Auction will be held this evening at the Garden Court restaurant. The event is not only Lethbridge College’s premier fundraiser, it’s one of Lethbridge’s finest black tie events, featuring gourmet food and the finest wines and spirits. For a sense of how visual the evening is, look at images from last year’s event.

Kodiaks basketball play host to Ambrose
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks basketball teams face the Ambrose University Lions at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The women Kodiaks play at 6 p.m.; the men’s game is at 8 p.m. Admission is free to students with Lethbridge College ID cards; $10 for adults; $5 for seniors, youth and alumni. College employees and students with University of Lethbridge ID cards can enjoy the games for $4.
