Beat Blue Monday with Beach Day

It’s Blue Monday, the third Monday of January, and what’s said to be the most depressing day of the year. Not so at Lethbridge College, where Buchanan Library is holding Beach Day and inviting all departments and centres to join in a blues-busting day of flip-flops, sunglasses and summer-inspired food and fun. While this event promises some fun photos, we can also connect you with some serious expertise on the serious side of mental illness and wellness, including suicide prevention, resilience and self-care.

Tuesday, Jan. 22, 5 to 9 p.m.

Student Massage Therapy Clinic opens for the term

Students in Lethbridge College’s Massage Therapy program will be back at work starting today offering therapeutic massage to students, staff and the public as part of their hands-on learning experience. Clinic hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Rates range from $20 for 30 minutes to $45 for 90 minutes. Services offered at this clinic are not tax-deductible nor can they be reimbursed by insurance. You can book an appointment by calling 403-329-7274. Lunch Express is served

One of Lethbridge’s best-kept secrets is Lunch Express in the Garden Court Dining Room at Lethbridge College. Students in Lethbridge College Culinary programs put their new skills to work for your enjoyment. After this week, there are only two more Lunch Express dates left this semester, so call 403-320-3230 to reserve a spot.

Wednesday, Jan. 23, noon to 4 p.m.

Inquiring Mind course for students offered

Lethbridge College Health Services offers students a four-hour course called Inquiring Mind to promote practical knowledge of mental health and mental illness. Participants will learn how to support peers with mental health problems and maintain their own mental health and resilience. This is one of three times this semester this workshop will be offered. Participants will receive a provincially recognized certification. This training is in a pilot phase, so participants will be asked to provide optional and confidential feedback.

Friday, Jan. 25, 1 to 2 p.m.

College and AHS offer resiliency workshop

What is Resiliency? How to Foster Resiliency? is the title of a one-hour workshop being offered in collaboration with Alberta Health Services Prevention and Promotion and Lethbridge College Health Promotion. Presented by Chris Windle, participants will learn: the definition of resiliency and the characteristics of being resilient; how to recognize their individual resiliency factors and how to enhance their bounce-back factor; and how they can build others' and community resiliency.
