Learn how to respond to a disclosure of sexual assault

Lethbridge College continues its work to respond and support individuals who’ve experienced sexual assault or abuse, with this two-day, comprehensive training program called First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training. This training is intended to build the capacity of professionals, paraprofessionals and community members to assess and respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Survivors who receive a safe and supportive response to their disclosure are more likely to reach out for help from medical and counselling services, and/or to report their experience to police. This will be offered again in February and May.

Thursday, Jan. 3, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Welcome to new international students

Most students won’t start classes until next week, giving our international students an opportunity to explore a relatively quiet campus. This orientation will take place at a variety of areas around campus and will give our students a tour, not only of campus facilities and academic and wellness support services, but an introduction to Canadian culture, food, games and prizes. Lethbridge College experienced significant growth in its international student population in Fall 2018, and that growth is expected to continue in the Winter term.

Friday, Jan. 4, 9 a.m. to noon

Optional orientation session for our mature students

Students who are starting at Lethbridge College for the first time Jan. 7 and who self-identify as mature students can attend this optional information session. Mature students are those who have been out of school for a period of time. This session is tailored to their needs to help them feel confident and ready for the resuming their education. Check in begins in Centre Core at 9 a.m. with sessions in the Instructional Building Commons. Topics will include an introduction to Canvas, the college’s learning management system, learning support services, health and wellness and financial aid services and tips for making the most of your time at Lethbridge College. Students need to register in advance.
