Suicide prevention training offered
As part of Lethbridge College’s ongoing commitment to the wellness of students and staff, we’re offering introductory level suicide prevention training free to all staff and students. Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training will teach participants to spot warning signs and clues and how to take action to prevent a suicide. This is the first of four times this semester this workshop will be offered. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.

New workshop helps students get back on track
Lethbridge College’s Learning Café has created a new optional workshop called Getting Back on Track Academically. This is for students who weren’t as successful as they hoped in the last semester, and who want to learn strategies to enhance their academic success. This 80-minute session will be offered again Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. Successful students aren’t born. They’re made. Our experts can help. Learning Café learning support services are available to all Lethbridge College students free of charge.

Wellness Writing Group begins
Academic strategists in the Lethbridge College Learning Café, Andrew Derksen and Silvana Campus, will launch a new six-session program open to all students that will help build confidence in writing and promote wellness. The Wellness Writing group will meet every second Tuesday starting today in the Learning Café Solarium (CE1340E). Participants will be given writing prompts related to some aspect of wellness, have time to write and share their work, either in person or online in the college’s learning management system. This new initiative is supported in partnership with the Alberta Advanced Education Post-secondary Student Mental Health Grant.

Our Culinary students are back in action and serving up the first Lunch Express service of 2019. Students test their skills and gain real-world experience in the Garden Court Restaurant. There’s only six Lunch Express dates this semester so call 403-320-3230 to reserve your seat for lunch.

20th annual Tiffin Conference focuses on entrepreneurship
The Tiffin Conference is a one-of-a-kind learning opportunity in southern Alberta, providing a platform for discussing issues and trends in the red meat industry for 20 years. More than 350 agricultural producers, students and industry experts are expected to attend this year’s conference. The theme this year is “Entrepreneurship: Opportunity, Risk and Creative Disruption.” You can see the lineup of speakers here.

Kodiaks basketball plays host to SAIT
Lethbridge College Kodiaks basketball teams will play host to the SAIT Trojans in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., men’s at 8 p.m. Admission is free to college students, $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, youth and alumni, and $3 for college staff.

Thinking of heading back to school? We’re here to help
With the economy leaving many people rethinking their future plans, we know post-secondary is on the minds of many. Now’s the perfect time to ask questions about all the supports and options available to help you make a successful transition back to school. Today is the first of three information sessions for mature students who have been away from school for a year or more. Today’s session and one from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22 are offered on campus in the Richardson Oilseed Room (CE1305). A third session will be held by webinar from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24. Interested in a feature on the common concerns of returning to school after years away, give us a call.
