Celebrate Valentine’s Day with an unforgettable meal
Lethbridge College’s Garden Court Restaurant’s Valentine’s Day dinner is always sold out. So this year, an amazing Valentine’s four-course meal will be featured at all three evening dining events this week. The Valentine’s menu features champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. That’s in addition to desserts that include a dark chocolate mousse tower. The restaurant is operated by our Culinary students, giving them a real-world experience.

Drop-in basketball for Black History Month
As part of Black History Month, staff and students are invited to stop by Val Matteotti Gymnasium for a friendly game of basketball. No previous experience is required.

Massage clinic holds food drive
The Student Massage Therapy Clinic is holding a food drive for the Lethbridge College Students’ Association Food Bank from now to Feb. 13. Clients will get $5 off when they donate a nonperishable food item during this campaign. Regular clinic hours are 5 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Lethbridge College will hold a special appreciation event for its donors. This annual event is an opportunity to celebrate our supporters and share the ways they’ve made a different to the college and our students. This year’s event will be held in Centre Core and The Cave.

It’s the Long Night against Procrastination
The Learning Café and the Buchanan Library will be open late and full of activities to help students bust some stress as they offer the Long Night against Procrastination. Students can stop by between 4 and 10:30 p.m. for sessions on research and writing, managing stress and wellness. The Learning Café and library are providing snacks, and the Lethbridge College Students’ Association will be providing pizza. Students should sign in at the door for a chance to win prizes. This event is presented in partnership with the Alberta Advanced Post-secondary Student Mental Health Grant.

Students take on annual Tecconnect Challenge
The fourth annual Tecconnect Challenge will take place over five intense hours. Students from Lethbridge College’s Multimedia Production, and Digital Communications and Media programs are placed in collaborative groups to create marketing materials and a distribution strategy for an entrepreneur from the Tecconnect incubator. In advance of today, the student met with the entrepreneur, Kenny Joss, founder of KJ Concepts, a design and drafting company that uses 3D scanning technology. Students have met with Joss to learn about his company and its challenges and opportunity, and will have practiced marketing pitches in advance of today’s challenge. During the five hours, they have to build all the media, finalize their strategies and pitches and then present to a panel of local entrepreneurs at Tecconnect, 3582 30 Street North.

Talking birds and birds and bees and bees
Lethbridge College continues to work collaboratively with OUTreach Southern Alberta and ARCHES in striving to create sex positivity through open dialogue around consent, boundaries and safer sexual practices, sexually transmitted infections and more. This session for students and staff is called The Bees and the Bees and the Birds and the Birds.

Valentine’s Cakes being prepped for the big day
Looking for a Valentine’s Day photo of something literally sweet? Pop by our kitchen where Culinary students will be putting finishing touches on cakes — Black Forest, chocolate caramel, chocolate mousse, cranberry and white chocolate, and red velvet. The cakes will be boxed and ready for pick up by staff and students the morning of Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. The Valentine’s Cake sale is an annual event that gives Culinary students practice making beautiful cakes, and gives staff and students a chance to purchase something delicious!

Check out the Human Library
Visit the Buchanan Library and check out a “book” of a different kind. In this case, the reference books are people of African or Caribbean descent from the Lethbridge College community who will be ready to answer questions about their cultural backgrounds as part of Black History Month. Different people will be available to share their stories one-on-one during this event. In another Black History Month event, the library will have a dating board display, inviting people from different cultures to share their dating traditions for all to see. See how you ask someone out on a date in another culture.

Black History Month movie in the library
It’s free movie and popcorn time in the Aquarium in the Buchanan Library. This event is part of Black History Month. Stop by and choose which movie you want to view. Titles may feature significant historical figures, relay stories from historical events, or feature groundbreaking portrayals by actors, directors or others.

Child and Youth Care students meet with industry panel
A small panel of representatives from community agencies will meet with second-year students from Lethbridge College’s Child and Youth Care program. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the industry, potential employers and practicum sites, as well as employment search and employability skills. This is an example of the connections between the college and its partners in the community.

Kodiak Country welcomes junior and senior high students
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks invite junior and senior high school students to a night of basketball action that includes free admission for these students and their chaperones, a free barbecue and some great prizes and swag. The barbecue starts at 5:30 p.m. with the women’s game at 6 p.m. and the men’s game at 8.

Kodiaks basketball at home for Family Day weekend
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks basketball teams are at home for the Family Day weekend, playing Briercrest tonight and Saturday. The women’s game starts at 6 p.m., with men to follow at 8 p.m in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. These teams play again Saturday. Admission is free to college students with student ID, adults are $8, seniors, youth and alumni are $5.

Happy Family Day from Lethbridge College
Lethbridge College is closed for Family Day today and students don’t have classes this week. Campus re-opens Tuesday, Feb. 19 and staff will be at work. The Val Matteotti Gymnasium is closed Family Day for maintenance work, however, the fitness centre and squash/racquetball courts will be open on the holiday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
