Library open late for final exam week

The Lethbridge College library will be open late this week for students needing a good place to study for their final exams. The library will stay open to 10 p.m. The library will have regular hours on Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15. Look for shorter weekday holiday hours to start once exams are over.

Monday, Dec. 9 through Thursday, Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stop by Doggy De-stress during exam week

It’s final exam week, which can be a stressful time for many students. To help ease the burden, Lethbridge College will offer Doggy De-stress this week. Pooches of a variety of sizes and kinds will be available for tail wags and petting sessions in TE1228 Monday through Thursday. Doggy De-stress wouldn’t be possible without support from volunteers across campus who share their canine besties for these sessions. Give those dogs a bone!

Monday Dec. 9 through Friday, Dec. 13, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. most days

Have you visited the Bookstore lately?

Take the stress out of your holiday shopping by visiting the Lethbridge College Bookstore. This is final exam week, so campus is surprisingly quiet, and the Bookstore is holding a customer appreciation event, offering 25 per cent off college gear and giftware. The store is located in PA1110. It’s open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Thursday when it opens at 9 a.m. Think about the students, alumni and proud family members who have a connection to Lethbridge College now or anytime from the past six decades.

Deadline coming for Honouring Excellence 2020 nominations

There are just six weeks left to nominate an outstanding Lethbridge College graduate for an Honouring Excellence award. The nomination deadline is Jan. 19. This is an opportunity to recognize outstanding contributions to a profession, a field of study, the volunteer sector or to the community. Whether you know of a Lethbridge College grad who deserves recognition or you are a college grad who’s making a difference, we want to hear from you. The criteria for four types of Honouring Excellence awards and a look at past honourees are online if you need inspiration. Don’t let great accomplishments go unnoticed!

Food for Fines campaign continues

If you have overdue books or other materials from the Lethbridge College Buchanan Library, now’s the time to return them. Donate a nonperishable food item at the library and you can have outstanding overdue fines forgiven (some restrictions apply) in this 30th iteration of Food for Fines. Not only will you be clearing your slate, but you’ll be helping the Lethbridge College Students’ Association Food Bank to meet the needs of students now and into the new year. This year’s Food for Fines theme is SOS, Support Our Students, Stock Our Shelves. Even if you don’t have overdue materials, pop by with a donation and you know your gift will be going directly to students.

Tuesday, Dec. 10 through Thursday, Dec. 12, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Garden Court ends 2019 with lunch buffets

The Garden Court Dining Room, a one-of-a-kind dining experience, is open for the final time in 2019 this week. Lunch buffet costs $16.75 for student-created menus. The Garden Court is operated by our Culinary Careers students. The students will be back in January offering Lunch Express, a three-course meal of appetizer, main and dessert. Thanks to all who supported the Garden Court this year. Your patronage gave our students a great learning experience.

Thursday, Dec. 12, 8:30 a.m. to noon

Busy day in college kitchen

Lethbridge College Culinary students will spend the morning baking and packaging dozens of assorted Christmas cookies to fill preorders for students and staff. Each order of one dozen cookies will include two each of mint Oreo, orange shortbread, gingersnap, snickerdoodle, Linzer and sugar cookies. Looking for a photo or video that represents the warm deliciousness of the holidays? Your opportunity is today because these cookies will be picked up Friday morning and enjoyed shortly thereafter. The sale of cookies supports our Culinary students.

Thursday, Dec. 12, noon to 5 p.m.

Used book sale raises money for student emergency fund

Looking for something new to read? The Lethbridge College Centre for Health and Wellness will hold a used book sale in Centre Core to raise money for the Ron MacDonald Emergency Fund, named in honour of a college instructor who died in 2003. Individuals across campus were invited to donate used books over the past several weeks. In keeping with the spirit of Ron, who was always offering support to his students, the emergency fund helps students at high risk for dropping out due to financial pressures.
