Every successful person has an origin story, and Lethbridge College wants to celebrate the stars who got their start on our campus. Nominations are now open for 2020 Honouring Excellence awards. The college is looking for those who used their time at Lethbridge College to become the leaders, thinkers and doers in our community and beyond.

Nominations are open in four categories – Distinguished Alumnus, Career Virtuoso, Community Leader and Rising Star – as the college’s Alumni Engagement department recognizes alumni who have used their Lethbridge College education to truly make a difference in their careers and communities.

“Every year, I am struck by the quality of candidates that we have for these awards,” says David Cocks, chair of the college’s Alumni Advisory Council. “We need the help of our community to identify those who have rose to the challenge to change our world one decision at a time, making a difference to those around them. We are so proud of all of our alumni and want to celebrate those who help make our institution great.”

To nominate a deserving individual, go to lethpolytech.ca/honouringexcellence and fill out a nomination in one of four categories:

  • Distinguished Alumni - this prestigious award recognizes college graduates who have marked themselves in their chosen careers, made a significant contribution to their communities, and demonstrated service to the college and its students.
  • Career Virtuoso - presented to alumni who have made significant contributions to their professional fields through their diligence, talent and dedication.
  • Community Leader - presented to alumni who have made contributions to their communities through their work or personal interests.
  • Rising Star - presented to alumni who, within 10 years of graduation from Lethbridge College, have demonstrated many forms of success in their professions.

The Distinguished Alumni award was established in 1992 to commemorate the college’s 35th anniversary, while the other three alumni awards were created in 2007 to commemorate the college’s 50th anniversary.

“To build towards the future, we must recognize where we’ve come from,” says Stephanie Savage, Alumni Engagement coordinator. “These awards help to recognize the connection to our past, and are an important example for our current and future students. They prove that Lethbridge College provides a base and there are no boundaries once you leave our college.”

Since 1992, more than 90 graduates have received alumni awards from Lethbridge College. The 2019 recipients were Distinguished Alumnus Rick Lewchuk (Communication Arts 1979), Career Virtuoso Sandra Davidson (Nursing Diploma 1994), Community Leader Jason VandenHoek (Business Administration 1999) and Rising Star Quinn Ohler (Communication Arts 2009). You can read more about them on the Lethbridge College website’s Alumni Relations page.

Further information on award categories and nomination forms are available at lethpolytech.ca/honouringexcellence. The nomination deadline is Jan. 19, 2020. The awards will be presented at a recognition event on April 23, 2020, at the Garden Court Dining Room.
