10-4-Road-Race-Shirt-Design.png Lethbridge’s longest on-going road race is getting a makeover for 2019. The 46th annual Kodiaks 10/4 Road Race takes place on Saturday, April 6. This year’s event features a new river bottom course layout that will begin and end at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre.

The distances remain the same as past years, as runners can challenge themselves with a competitive 10-mile race, or take part in a family-friendly four-mile trek.

“We’re excited about the new course and we think runners will be as well,” says race organizer Danny Robdrup. “It’s a safer, more sustainable race course that will allow us to provide a great event to participants for years to come.”

Since its first race in 1974, the 10/4 has attracted runners from across Alberta to challenge themselves against Lethbridge’s coulee terrain. Registration is $35 per person, and there are a limited number of custom-designed performance race shirts still available for an additional $10. All proceeds go to support the Lethbridge College Kodiaks cross country and indoor track programs.

“The support from this race goes right back to help our student-athletes,” says Kodiaks cross country and indoor track coach Simon Schaerz. “It helps to offset the costs of uniforms and shoes, which allows the athletes to focus on their training and studies. We’re very appreciative of the way the city has embraced this race over the past 45 years.”

The 10-mile race begins at 9 a.m. on April 6, with the four-mile race starting at 9:20 a.m. Both races will feature chip timing.

The race is made possible by the sponsorship of Runners Soul, Lethbridge College and the Kodiaks Association.
