LC-Bridging-Cultures.jpg Lethbridge College will celebrate all of the distinct cultures that make up its campus community at Bridging Cultures on Thursday. Live music, dancers, cultural displays and international food selections will all be highlighted during the event that runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

“Our students, faculty and staff come from around the world, and all play an equal part in creating a unique and diverse campus,” says Dr. Paula Burns, Lethbridge College President and CEO. “By celebrating and embracing our cultural differences, it makes it easier to find common understanding. There is so much that can be learned from each other, and I’m proud that our campus can be a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment that allows everyone to thrive.”

Lethbridge College has more than 500 students attending this semester on international study visas, along with more than 250 students who are listed as permanent Canadian residents. In total, students attending the college come from 75 countries around the globe, led by students from India, Nigeria and Kenya all the way to the college’s first ever student from Tajikistan.

“We chose to host this event on March 21, the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination” says Catherine Wilde, manager, International Services. “This day allows us to mark a call to action to eliminate racism and discrimination. Bridging Cultures is a wonderful way to encourage our campus community to celebrate who we all are and where we are from.”

The International Services department at Lethbridge College is a key support for international students attending the college. From enrolment in one of the college’s academic programs, to academic and non-academic support services, a team of advisors and support service specialists are dedicated to making the transition to the college as smooth as possible. The department also supports learning abroad experiences for students and staff as well as international partnerships with partner institutions and agencies abroad.
