With the beginning of the new academic year, things are becoming quite busy again at Lethbridge College. Here's a look at what is happening in the week ahead.

Sunday, Sept. 2

Family Orientation session

Lethbridge College invites parents and/or partners of new students to attend a Family Orientation event from 1:30 to 3 p.m. This is to help the students’ adult family members familiarize themselves with campus and services that can help ensure student success. Family members of more than 100 students are expected. A full list of services open this long weekend is online. Interested in a story about how family members can support their loved one’s post-secondary success? We can help.

Monday, Labour Day, Sept. 3

Student success workshops

Sure, it’s a holiday, but Lethbridge College staff will be offering workshops to help students hit the ground running for the fall term. A Student Success Strategies Workshop will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m., with a workshop for mature students from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

New Student Orientation day

Students who are new to Lethbridge College will be welcomed to campus with a program of orientation, entertainment, a barbecue sponsored by the Lethbridge College Students’ Association and campus tours. Check in starts at 8 a.m., with program orientation at 9 a.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The barbecue is at 12:15 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

Classes begin

While some trades students started school in late August, the bulk of Lethbridge College’s students return to campus today. Look for lots of activity.

Wednesday Sept. 5 to Sunday, Sept. 9

#NameOurCoffee contest

Lethbridge College and Cupper’s Coffee & Tea have partnered to bring delicious, locally roasted coffee to campus. This unique coffee blend just needs a name. From Sept. 5 to 9, submit a creative, original and relevant name for the unique blend for a chance to win a gift basket from Cuppers and free coffee for the academic year from Culinary Services. On Sept. 10, a coffee naming selection committee will pick the top eight names to compete in a head to head Instagram poll. You’ll have your say in the final name, voting for the winner between Sept. 11 and 13. The winning name and the winner will be announced at Coulee Fest on Sept. 15. There are two easy ways to enter the #NameOurCoffee contest — online through Instagram or by filling out a paper submission at the Food Court. Full contest rules are online.

Wednesday, Sept. 5, 7 to 9 p.m.

Spidey Mentalist show for students

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. in The Cave for this 7 p.m. event for students and staff. Spidey is a hypnotist/mentalist/magician who has performed across Canada, the U.S. and internationally. He was nominated Canadian Magician of the Year. This event is being organized by the Lethbridge College Students’ Association.
