IMG_4860 edit (Small).jpg There will be plenty of glitz and glamour this weekend as Lethbridge College and the University of Lethbridge present the second annual “I’ll Show You Mine… Deconstructing Costume, Constructing Fashion” event. The evening combines the college’s annual fashion show with a collaborative art exhibition. It begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the south entrance of the college’s Trades, Technologies and Innovation Facility.

This one-of-a-kind show is presented by the college’s Fashion Design and Sustainable Production program and the U of L’s Dramatic Arts program. It features student-created fashion designs and art exhibits created by students, instructors and alumni.

“The beautiful work these students create is incredible," says Kris Hodgson, interim chair of the School of Media and Design. "When the college's fashion program hosts a show, it’s a must attend event. Grads of the program have been recognized nationally for some of the work they did right here in southern Alberta."

The “Constructing Fashion” portion of the evening is a showcase event for students in the college’s fashion program. First- and second-year students will highlight their designs that range from swimwear to men’s tailored jackets to individual lines of the graduating students.

“We have amazingly talented and creative students who work long hours every year to research, design and construct what you see on the runway,” says Brenda Brandley, Fashion Design and Sustainable Production instructor and co-curator. ”As well, they learn the business aspects of the apparel industry to get their ideas into production.”

The “Deconstructing Costume” portion of the event is woven around the fashion show and features a variety of multi-dimensional art and costume pieces. These have been created by students, instructors and alumni from both the university and the college.

This exciting event promotes the two-plus-two transfer agreement between the two institutions, where students take their first two years at the college in the Fashion Design and Sustainable Production program, and can then move on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts – Dramatic Arts degree after two more years of study at the university.

“This agreement allows for an artistic exchange of ideas in fashion, and promotes accessible education to interested students in southern Alberta,” says Jorge Sandoval, Fine Arts instructor, and co-curator. “It offers a natural ‘next step’ to students graduating from the fashion design program at Lethbridge College.”

The evening will also feature a trade show and a market place. Attendees are invited to dress to impress. General admission tickets are $20, and student and alumni tickets are $15. Tickets are available online.
