The accolades keep piling up for Lethbridge College’s women’s basketball team. An undefeated ACAC regular season has resulted in forward Logan Moncks winning ACAC player of the year, and head coach Brad Karren winning ACAC south division coach of the year. Both Moncks and Karren will be the ACAC’s nominees for their respective CCAA national awards.
At the ACAC women’s basketball awards banquet on Wednesday evening at the Lethbridge Lodge, Moncks was singled out as the top player in the ACAC this season.
A southern Alberta product, the Cardston native led the Kodiaks in scoring, and finished second in the ACAC, with 22.5 points per game. She also finished first in free throw percentage (91.1 per cent), second in field goal percentage (54.8 per cent), ninth in steals (2.8 SPG) and 11th in blocks (0.6 BPG).
“I can honestly say that Logan is a student-athlete that has earned this honor” says Todd Caughlin, manager of Kodiaks Athletics. “There is one guarantee every day I am in my office and that is looking down on the floor and seeing Logan in the gym working on her game. Her determination and dedication to do her job is unmatched.”
Moncks, a Business Administration – Management student is in her second season with the Kodiaks after transferring from SAIT. In addition to being a nominee for CCAA player of the year, she has also been named a CCAA all-Canadian selection.
Karren is one of the top coaches in ACAC history, now in his 14th season as Kodiaks head coach. He coached his club to a second-straight undefeated regular season, and has compiled a remarkable 67-3 record in three seasons since returning for his second stint as head coach in 2014.
“What an impressive run coach Karren has put together with the Kodiaks since he returned to the head position of the women’s program,” says Caughlin. “Brad and I both returned to the Kodiaks in 2014-15 and I’m proud to see how the program has matured athletically and academically in a short period of time. Brad has done a great job.”
This is Karren’s seventh ACAC south division coach of the year award. He also won CCAA coach of the year in 2008-09.
The Kodiaks also had three of the five players named to the ACAC south division all-conference first team. Moncks is joined by Sunder West (Raymond, Alta. – third year – General Studies) who finished fourth in ACAC scoring with 17.5 points per game and Emma Lowry (Lundbreck – fourth year – Massage Therapy) who was third in ACAC rebounding, averaging 9.7 rebounds per game.

The Kodiaks men’s basketball team had two players named to the ACAC south division all-conference first team at the ACAC awards banquet on Wednesday in Medicine Hat, as Chris Maughan and Cory Richardson both earned honours.
Maughan (Mesa, Ariz. – third year – Business Administration-Management) made a triumphant return to the Kodiaks following a season at the University of Lethbridge, leading the team in points (15.4 PPG) and rebounds (7.9 RPG).
Richardson (Bunbury, Australia – first year - Business Administration-Management) finished third in the ACAC in both assists (113) and steals (54) as well as finishing 14th in scoring with 15.2 points per game.
