For 60 years, Lethbridge College alumni have been making their marks in countless careers and industries, all around the world. The college will once again be recognizing some of the very best of this group, as nominations are now open for the 2018 Honouring Excellence alumni awards.
“I’m always amazed to see the success stories of those who have come through Lethbridge College,” says David Cocks, chair of the college’s Alumni Advisory Council. “This campus has served as a starting point for so many talented and driven people who have gone on to make a difference in their chosen careers, and it’s important to take time to recognize those accomplishments. It’s also a great way to tie the college’s past to its present and future.”
Any of the more than 35,000 college graduates, of any age and in any field, are eligible to be nominated for one of four Honouring Excellence awards, based on their work in their careers, in the community and in the college. Those chosen for an award will be recognized at the 2018 Honouring Excellence event during the week of Convocation.
The four awards include:
- Distinguished Alumni - this prestigious award recognizes college graduates who have marked themselves in their chosen careers, made a significant contribution to their communities and demonstrated service to the college and its students.
- Career Virtuoso - presented to alumni who have made significant contributions to their professional fields through their diligence, talent and dedication.
- Community Leader - presented to alumni who have made contributions to their communities through their work or personal interests.
- Rising Star - presented to alumni who, within 10 years of graduation from Lethbridge College, have become driven innovators in their professions.
The Distinguished Alumni award was established in 1992 to commemorate the college’s 35th anniversary, while the other three alumni awards were created in 2007 to commemorate the college’s 50th anniversary.
“We encourage all of our alumni to stay involved with the college and keep us updated as their careers advance,” says Kari Bird, Lethbridge College Alumni Relations coordinator and member of the Lethbridge College Board of Governors. “Honouring Excellence is a great way for us to share some of those success stories, and we encourage everyone to think of those alumni who have truly gone above and beyond, and consider nominating them for these awards.”
Since 1992, more than 85 graduates have received alumni awards from Lethbridge College. The 2017 recipients were Distinguished Alumnus Miles Grove (Environmental Science – Renewable Resource Management, 1989 and Environmental Science – Conservation Enforcement, 1990), Career Virtuoso J. Scott Barton (Recreation Management - Administration, 1985) and Community Leader Charlton Weasel Head (General Studies, 1999).
