Knowing the need for blood donations never slows down, Lethbridge College is proud to show its support for Canadian Blood Services by joining the “Missing Type” campaign this week.
Lethbridge College is dropping the letters “b” and “o” from its logo on the institution’s website and social media accounts from Aug. 16 to 19. The “Missing Type” campaign brings awareness to the need for blood donations by having partners remove the letters of the three blood groups – A, B and O – from their official logos.
“Lethbridge College has long been an advocate for blood donations, and this is an extension of that commitment,” says Lethbridge College President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns. “We are a Partner for Life with Canadian Blood Services and we urge all employees, students and members of the community donate if they can and learn their blood type.”
Canadian Blood Services needs 100,000 new donors this year to keep up with demand as blood is needed to help treat critically ill patients, whether they have been in a crash, had complications during surgery, or need blood replacement therapy for various cancers and diseases. You don’t need to know your blood type to donate and first time donors who have a successful blood donation will receive a blood donor card in 6 to 8 weeks confirming their blood type. Anyone with a successful donation can also confirm their blood type about a week after they donate through the National Contact Centre (1-888-236-6283).
“We hope as a result of the “Missing Type” campaign more people become aware of the constant need for blood and become curious about their own blood type,” says Susan Matsumoto, Canadian Blood Services’ regional director of donor relations in the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories region. “Knowing your blood type could help save your life – or someone else’s.”
