Taking a page from the Dragons’ Den playbook, Lethbridge College students will get competitive in a unique challenge in making deadline-driven creative pitches this week.
The college and tecconnect are teaming up to provide students from both the Multimedia Production program and the Digital Communications and Media program with a two-day experience. Lethbridge College graduate Obed Maurice (Business Administration 2002) of Maxim Management Chartered Accountant will talk to students at the college this Thursday giving an overview about his company.
On Friday students will travel to tecconnect where groups of four to five students will get five hours to create a “brand package and a communication strategy package” for Maurice’s company – including items such as a new logo, a website mockup and an advertising plan. Each group will pitch its ideas to Maurice and a panel of tecconnect entrepreneurs, with a winner being chosen from the entries.
“This collaboration provides an excellent opportunity for our students to get a real-world feel for what they will face after graduation,” said Vicki Hegedus, chair of Lethbridge College’s School of Media and Design. “The competition adds another element to our students learning and helps to drive them to perform at the top of their abilities.”
Maxim Management is one of seven entrepreneur companies growing their business through the support and services offered within the tecconnect environment. “We are thrilled to be able to partner with the college on this dynamic process that will enrich the student learning experience and provide value added service to one of our tecconnect clients,” says Renae Barlow, VP of tecconnect and Business Development. “This project is tangible example of how the community continues to work collaboratively to support the entrepreneurial eco-system in the region.”
Obed Maurice will speak with students at Lethbridge College on Thursday from 9 to 9:50 a.m. in room TE 3219. Members of the media are welcome to attend his presentation.
Lethbridge College students will take part in the competition at tecconnect (3582 30 St. N.) on Friday. The design phase will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and presentations to the panel will start at 3 p.m.
