The Redford government’s investment in new and modernized labs and classrooms in Lethbridge will benefit over 3,600 post-secondary students.

The provincial government is committing funds to two new projects at the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College to ensure students get the skills they need to take part in Alberta’s growing workforce.

At the University of Lethbridge, the Destination Project includes a new facility for teaching, research and community outreach in the sciences as well as upgrades to the iconic University Hall. The investment will replace dated facilities accommodating over 1,300 current students and increase capacity by 450.

At Lethbridge College, ground will be broken next spring on the Trades and Technology Project, which will include new learning spaces and equipment for an additional 880 students in eight trades and four technology programs.

“Campus Alberta is about creating student opportunity, providing the best educational resources, and helping to enrich communities. Students who have a wide variety of interests will benefit from the investments in these two post-secondary projects.”

- Thomas Lukaszuk, Deputy Premier and Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education

“With this funding, we can begin construction this spring and be ready for a fall 2017 opening. The new trades and technologies facility will have the ability to support 2,300 learners. The partnership between the Government of Alberta, the college and our many community partners ensures we can continue to provide access to learning opportunities and applied research, while preparing highly skilled graduates in southern Alberta for employment in trades and technology-related fields.”

- Randy Jespersen, Chair, Lethbridge College Board of Governors

“The Destination Project will be a hub of innovation – a venue that enables world-class scientific research and teaching activities. Further, these facilities will be of tremendous benefit to our city and region. We envision this transformational project as a piece of community infrastructure, used by children, primary and high school students, local industry, small businesses, government research institutions and partner post-secondary institutions.”

- Gord Jong, Board Chair, University of Lethbridge

The government is providing $200 million to Destination Project at the University of Lethbridge and $56 million towards the Trades and Technology Project at Lethbridge College.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta’s resources to ensure we’re able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
