news-archive-career-makeove-2013.pngLethbridge College is launching a major new marketing campaign today that will offer two Canadians the chance to embrace a different future thanks to a free two-year education at the college.

Lethbridge College’s Extreme Career Makeover is geared to people who are looking to make a big change. Whether they have been out of school for 20 months or 20 years, Lethbridge College wants to give them the opportunity to change their career and change their lives. Not only will the college cover two years of tuition and books for the winners, it will also cover the cost of residence for both those years.

In exchange, the two students will spend the two years chronicling their experiences as a Lethbridge College student in videos, blogs and social media.

“The Extreme Career Makeover campaign is certainly a first for Lethbridge College and quite possibly for post-secondary education in Canada,” says Lethbridge College President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns. “Increasing the accessibility of a college education is something that every school is working towards. Offering two people this unique opportunity is accessibility at its best.”

Applicants must be 18 years or older to be eligible to enter the contest, which is open until Dec. 15. Applicants need to complete an online form at lethpolytech.ca and write a short essay telling their story and explaining why they are the best candidate for Lethbridge College’s Extreme Career Makeover. The top 10 finalists will then be selected by a panel of Lethbridge College judges. The college will then produce videos of the top 10 finalists, which will be available for viewing online for two weeks in March. Family, friends and supporters from around the world will be asked to vote for their top applicants. Online voting will determine the four semi-finalists, and from that smaller group, the college will select the two winners.

The names of the winners will be announced in April 2014, and the winners will be expected to start their studies in September 2014. The contest has a total value of more than $30,000 for each student.

“We’re incredibly excited to launch this campaign and to see the response of people from across Canada,” says Lethbridge College Marketing and Communications Manager Carmen Toth. “The college has such diverse programming, excellent student services and many special events throughout the year. We’re looking forward to these two students chronicling their experiences at the college during their time here.”

Current Lethbridge college students and Lethbridge College employees and their immediate families are not eligible to apply (although they are welcome to suggest that their friends and neighbors apply, and they can take part in the voting of the top 10).
