Renowned renewable energy expert Dr. Christine Wörlen, former director of renewable energies for the German Energy Agency, is presenting at Lethbridge College’s Residence Hall at 1:30 p.m. Friday on best practices to integrate renewable energy into urban settings.
Wörlen’s area of expertise focuses on the design and evaluation of projects and programs for sustainable energy policy and the integration of renewable electricity. The Solar Energy Society of Alberta, the Pembina Institute and the German Embassy worked together with the International Wind Energy Academy to bring Wörlen to Alberta for a series of lectures.
The Association of Energy and Water Industries in Germany recently reported that renewable energy supplied nearly 21 percent of the country’s electricity during the first half of 2011. According to the Pembina Institute, since Alberta has more solar and wind resources than Germany, the province faces a significant opportunity to diversify and clean up its electricity supply.
The session itself is expected to last 60 minutes, with an additional 30 minute question period to follow.
