Lethbridge College is staging a student training event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, with activity at the DA Electric Barn and the second floor of the Technology building.
This event involves some 75 students from Criminal Justice, Communication Arts and Emergency Medical Services Education programs, and simulates response to an emergency situation.
The event will include training vehicles, with emergency lights and sirens active, moving throughout the campus intermittently. Loud noises and groups of students and instructors involved in the learning activity will punctuate campus throughout the day.
Participant safety is the top priority of the day; extensive protocols are in place. This event is not open to the public.
Students were invited to participate as a course activity in this simulated altercation with multiple victims. The applied research team working on this study is gathering information on what impact participation in a simulated community emergency has on the level of knowledge and/or respect students have for interrelated professions.
The finding of this study will help the research team understand how to better prepare students for the interactions they will have with other professionals once they enter the workforce, which will positively impact the communities where these professionals live and work.
