The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) has confirmed Lethbridge College as the host for the women’s national basketball championships, March 15 to 17, 2012.
Lethbridge College successfully hosted this event in 2006 and the men’s championship in 1994. Kodiaks women’s basketball teams have participated in seven of the last 10 national championships, winning the title in 2004.
“Hosting a national championship is a wonderful way to unite the college community and local citizens while showcasing our educational institution and city,” says Athletic manager Bill Dean.
Responses from participants at the 2006 championship were very positive and the CCAA is looking forward to returning these championships to Lethbridge.
Avery Harrison , Kodiaks women’s coach, says he’s excited about the opportunity to participate in the 2012 championships as host, but will be building his team for next year with sights set on filling the ACAC champion spot in the tournament.
The eight-team championship will feature the top CCAA teams from British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. (Does not include Manitoba or Saskatchewan.)
Lethbridge College will be striking its host committee shortly to begin plans in providing a memorable experience for athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators at these 2012 nationals.
