Lethbridge Polytechnic is welcoming four new members to its Board of Governors: John Kolk, Chris Stasiuk, Dr. Gary Barron and Jeniffer Orajekwe. These appointments bring the Board of Governors to its full 16-member capacity.

Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Mueller Irrigation Research Group (MIRG) has developed an easy-to-use, web-based program to measure evaporation and transpiration (evapotranspiration, or ET) in agricultural settings, primarily crop and hay fields.

The Lethbridge Polytechnic community offers its heartfelt congratulations to William Singer III (Api’soomaahka/Running Coyote) on being named the 2026 recipient of the Alberta Museums Association's Lieutenant Governor's Award.

RDAR, a leading Alberta funder of agricultural research, announced a $500,000 contribution to support Dr. Willemijn Appels, RDAR Research Chair and Senior Research Chair of the Mueller Irrigation Research Group at Lethbridge Polytechnic, as she leads efforts to establish a provincial and national hub for applied irrigation research. The investment is funded by the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).

Lethbridge Polytechnic is working with the City of Lethbridge to update road names around campus and assign civic addresses to campus buildings. The initiative is designed to improve emergency response times and help students, employees and visitors navigate the property more easily.

Now in its fourth year, the Post-Secondary Pancake Breakfast has become a fixture of Lethbridge’s Whoop-Up Days celebration. Given the integral relationships the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic have developed with community partners across southern Alberta, the breakfast is a natural opportunity to get together and celebrate those connections.

Coalhurst-based Precon Manufacturing is continuing its support of Lethbridge Polytechnic with a $87,000 gift to support student awards. The gift is part of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Board of Governors Matching Endowment initiative, which matches donations from $25,000 to $100,000. The endowment fund has $500,000 available for matching.

Farming and planning may be spelled differently, but the idea is the same at Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Research Farm. 

Second-year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship student Brandon Slingerland was in Toronto, Ont. last month representing Lethbridge Polytechnic and Team Alberta at the 2026 Skills Canada National Competition where he placed second in the Heavy Vehicle Technology category.

A decade-long tradition continues at Lethbridge Polytechnic with employees, students, alumni and community members raising the Progressive Pride Flag in a show of support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
