Second-year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship student Brandon Slingerland was in Toronto, Ont. last month representing Lethbridge Polytechnic and Team Alberta at the 2026 Skills Canada National Competition where he placed second in the Heavy Vehicle Technology category.

Dr. Jami Albright-Tolman (Natosii Apaniimstakyakii – Sun that Breaks through the Storm Lady), an instructor in the Centre for Justice and Human Services and a researcher in the Centre for Public Safety Applied Research (CPSAR), is one of those professionals applying her experience to improve the human side of criminal justice and train the next generation of public safety professionals. 

It’s a week of celebration at Lethbridge Polytechnic as the institution prepares to recognize its spring convocates.

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Business Administration program is strengthening its longstanding relationship with Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Alberta, the CPA Education Foundation and the CPA Western School of Business. 

After two years of significant change, including shifts in enrolment, financial pressures and internal restructuring, the Lethbridge Polytechnic Board of Governors has approved a balanced operating budget for 2026-27 and reviewed projected balanced budgets for 2027-28 and 2028-29.

Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Wildlife Analytics Lab (WAL) has secured full funding for year one of a new applied research initiative integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence into wildlife age analysis.

Patience Omeruo, a second-year Digital Communications and Media (DCM) student, has been selected for an internship experience with Corus Entertainment and Global News. Omeruo is the 21^st recipient of the internship, sponsored by Lethbridge Polytechnic alumni Troy Reeb (Broadcast Journalism 1988, Honorary Degree 2019). 

Two student researchers examining movement and exercise capabilities have been selected to present their research projects alongside a Lethbridge Polytechnic instructor at the European College of Sports Science (ECSS) annual conference in Lausanne, Switzerland this summer. 

Five Lethbridge Polytechnic Business Administration – Accounting students are celebrating a second-place finish – and a $1,500 cash prize – thanks to their stellar performance at a prestigious accounting competition.
