In the event of a campus emergency, follow these procedures.
Active Shooter
If you hear shots fired, witness an armed person shooting or threatening people, call 911 when safe to do so. Then determine the safest way to protect yourself.
GET OUT – If a safe path is available
HIDE – If you can’t get out safely
FIGHT – As a last resort

Bomb Threat
Each and every bomb threat must be taken seriously and evaluated individually.

When to Use a Fire Extinguisher
Fire extinguishers are only to be used for small fires (wastebasket size or smaller). You need both the correct fire extinguisher and knowledge of how to use it. When in doubt, evacuate the area immediately.
P – PULL
Pull safety pin from handle.
A – AIM
Aim (nozzle, cone, horn) at the base of the fire.
S – SQUEEZE
Squeeze the trigger handle.
S – SWEEP
Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire (watch for flare ups).
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous Materials Spill/Release
Do not attempt to clean up a chemical spill or other hazardous materials.
In the event of a hazardous material release near Lethbridge Polytechnic campus, you may be instructed to shelter indoors.
A lockdown confines all employees and students to a classroom or office due to a perceived or real threat extenuating from people (e.g. protests or unwelcome person on campus), exposures (e.g. hazardous material) or situations (e.g. menacing animal).
If a lockdown is initiated an you are in a building:

Environmental threats or hazards (e.g., severe weather or a hazardous material leak) may require you to take shelter. You will be told why you must shelter in place and it will be clearly stated that the situation is not a lock down. Once you know why the shelter in place has been called:
