Ready to dig deep.

A career path doesn’t always progress in a straight line. Academic upgrading can help you change directions or choose a new path to professional success. We offer upgrading for select math, science and English courses which can be used for admission to post-secondary institutions. If you're upgrading to meet the admission requirements for one of our Lethbridge Polytechnic programs, check out our post-secondary preparation courses, which can be used to meet admission requirements and can also be used to qualify you for student loans. Or, if you’re looking to complete your Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), we can help you prepare to write the test on our campus.

Enrolling in Upgrading

Upgrading courses are used only for admission to post-secondary institutions and do not count towards completing a high school diploma or CAEC. Provided you have a program in mind, we encourage you to meet with an academic advisor prior to registering in courses to determine if a high school diploma is required and if upgrading is necessary to meet the admission requirements for your desired program. Academic advisors can also help you plan your upgrading path to make sure you’re on the right track!

Before you get started...

Do some career research.

Answering the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” takes a little more thought now than it did when you were a kid. It is important to research your career options and figure out what you want to be.

Meet with an advisor.

Make “cents” of your money.

We have two different types of upgrading courses, and each type is funded differently. Our Grade 12 equivalent courses are not post-secondary courses and therefore not eligible for student loans. For these courses, you may be eligible for Foundational Learning Assistance or other funding through your financial institution. Our post-secondary preparation courses are eligible for funding by student loans.
