What is Ready to Connect?

Lethbridge Polytechnic and Scotiabank have partnered to offer this unique opportunity to our students. The goal is to support you with your journey at Lethbridge Polytechnic by providing you with a structure for academic success, career development, creating a sense of belonging, providing financial support throughout their education.

Mentorship is a central component of the Ready to Connect program. As a member of the program, you will be partnered with a mentor from your program. Starting polytechnic can be challenging in many ways, and this is one way to connect you with a community to make you feel supported and build success.

Why should you join Ready to Connect?

This program is designed to better prepare you for success as you work to complete a Lethbridge Polytechnic program by providing the following:

  • Financial support of $500 per semester for a maximum of four semesters
  • Guidance from Lethbridge Polytechnic professionals
  • Mentorship
  • Support services including Student Awards and Financial Aid, Wellness Services and academic skills assistance
  • Ongoing career development support, leading to a plan to guide you as you finish polytechnic and enter the workforce!

Application criteria

There are a limited number of spots in this program. To be eligible for Ready to Connect, you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Entering or in your first semester of a diploma or certificate program
  • Preference given to members of equity-deserving groups, such as: Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, persons with disabilities, women in STEM/Trades
  • Secondary preference given to first generation students, newcomers to Canada, or students in financial need

What can I expect in Ready to Connect?

Prior to Arrival

Prior to beginning in your academic program you will meet with the Ready to Connect Coordinator to go over the program requirements. You will also complete three activities to ensure you are ready for your first day of classes. These should be no problem as they are all things that new students generally do anyway!

  • Campus tour/summer orientation tour
  • Student Success Survey
  • Pre-arrival modules

Please note that if you begin the program after the start of classes some of these requirements may change.

During Classes

Each semester you will choose four activities to complete. Financial assistance will be provided to you if you; complete the four activities, continue in a Lethbridge Polytechnic program into the next term and maintain acceptable grades. Examples of the activities are as follows:

  • Attending fun Lethbridge Polytechnic Students' Association events
  • Peer support from a current student
  • Mentorship from a former polytechnic student
  • Academic support with the assistance of our great staff
  • Career planning and related activities
  • Financial literacy sessions to help with budgeting, applying for credit cards and paying back loans

This is an overview of the Ready to Connect program, further details will be provided once you have applied to the program.
