Testing Services supports the delivery of online distance learning exams, which may be written on campus or off campus with an approved proctor when required by the instructor.
Writing Your Exam On Campus (Lethbridge Area)
Students are responsible for booking their own distance learning exams. If you live in the Lethbridge area:
You can also arrange to write exams by contacting us in person (AN2730) or by calling 403-320-3368.
Please be advised that all distance learning exams must be booked at least five (5) business days in advance. No late booking requests will be accepted under any circumstance.

Steps to arrange an off-campus exam:
- Contact your suitable proctor to arrange a time and date to write your exam.
- Complete and sign the Online Exam Off-Campus Proctor Request form.

Lethbridge Polytechnic online exams requiring a proctor typically require Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) to be installed on the computer that is used for testing. This is a special web browser that prevents you from accessing other applications and web content (including Canvas content) while writing an exam. The browser file is small (4.4 MB for Windows; 1 MB for Mac) and easy to install/uninstall but it must be used for every proctored exam.
It is to be installed by:
- The proctor on a work computer at the proctor’s place of employment (not on a personal home computer); or
- The student on the student’s personal laptop, which must be brought to the proctor’s place of employment for the test.
Note: If you choose this option, you must show the proctor that you have closed the browser before leaving the testing room.
Regardless of whose computer is used, the proctor is responsible for entering the secure exam’s password, monitoring the entire exam sitting and providing Internet access. Wireless internet can be used but we recommend that you use a hardwired connection to ensure no information is lost during the exam.
