The Registration team is here to support you throughout your student journey. We assist full-time and part-time students with services like block registration, self-registration, tuition payments, confirmation of enrolment, student ID cards, and more.
This webpage contains information and how-to guides to support students with registration and related processes. Read on or use the quick links on the right-hand side for more details about registration and other important processes supported by our team.
Registration Process
The registration process varies depending on which program and campus you have been admitted to. For some programs, our team will register students into core required courses (block registration), for other programs students will select and register in courses through Self Service.
Once you accept your Offer of Admission you are an active student and eligible to register in courses.
Based on your program, you will either:
A: Be registered in courses by our Registration team, or
B: Self-register in courses using Self Service for students.
The Types of Registration section provides details on whether you will be block-registered in courses, need to self-register, or follow another registration process, based on the program you are admitted to .
Types of Registration will provide you with more information about whether you will be block-registered in courses or if your program requires you to Self-Register or take another route.
Registration Dates
New and continuing students who are eligible for block registration will be registered into classes as per dates listed below. Students who have applied and been accepted into their program after these dates will be registered into classes within two weeks of confirming their offer.

Open Studies at Lethbridge Polytechnic offers flexible learning opportunities for students to explore their educational options. It is ideal for those who want to combine different types of study or are undecided about their post-secondary goals. Students can mix post-secondary classes with academic upgrading courses, and can complete courses on a full or part time basis. Open Studies provides opportunities for students who:
- Wish to participate in post-secondary education without committing to a specific program
- Want to sample courses to determine what program may be most interesting
- Are seeking professional development or personal interest courses
- Require additional courses to meet program admission requirements
- Wish to improve high school grades for competitive admission
- Missed the admission deadline for a specific program
- Are returning to school to refresh skills after a break
- Plan to complete courses to transfer to another institution
After submitting an online application for Open Studies, students can register through Self Service (if Self-Registration dates permit).
Students may apply to audit various Lethbridge Polytechnic courses by completing the Application to Audit a Course form. This form must be approved and submitted to the Registrar’s Office no later than the end of the Add/Drop period for the term in which the course is taken.
The Instructor and/or Program Chair may set specific criteria for auditing the course before approving your request.
Students auditing courses must pay all associated fees by the term fee payment deadline outlined in the Academic Schedule. They will receive a grade of AUD and cannot use credits from audited courses towards full-time or part-time status, or their term or program GPA.
Registration Instructions & Information

- Log into Self Service
- Select Student Planning under the Academics tab
- Select My Progress
- If your program requires electives, you will see an Electives section within your program summary as well as a list of eligible courses or course subjects you can register in
For detailed instructions, please watch the video tutorial found in the Self Service Video section.
Special Case Registration
If you are unable to register for a required course, you may submit a Request for Special Case Registration to your program area. Common reasons for this request include needing a course to maintain full-time status for funding, being eligible for graduation in the upcoming term, or needing to complete a course that is currently full.
Please note that submitting a Request for Special Case Registration does not guarantee enrolment in the course. Review may take up to 4 weeks, and you will be notified of the decision via your Lethbridge Polytechnic email.
To complete the request, complete and and submit the form to the Program Assistant within your program.
Withdrawing from Courses
Withdrawing from a course will result in a grade of “W” on your transcript.
The deadline to withdraw from a course is on the last day of the course (prior to exams). It’s important to note that course start/end dates may vary from the standard dates listed on the Important Dates and Deadlines page. The last day to withdraw will be the last day of the specific course you intend to withdraw from. If you remain enrolled in courses after the last day to withdraw, you will be assigned an academic grade for the course(s).
Tuition is not refunded for course withdrawal(s). If you are on student loans, withdrawing from courses may impact your eligibility for future loans
If you withdraw from all courses in a given term you will remain an active student and can continue your studies in the next term. If you do not register in courses for the following term, you will no longer be considered an active student and your program will be closed. If you wish to return for a future term, you can find directions on how to reapply here.
Students who withdraw from all registered courses for two consecutive terms (i.e.: Fall and Winter, or Winter and Summer, etc.) will have their program closed after the second term of withdrawals and will be required to reapply for admission for a future intake. To gain re-entry following two consecutive terms of full course withdrawals students will require the approval of their academic centre Dean.
