Now more than ever, students at Lethbridge Polytechnic are navigating financial pressures alongside their academic goals. To help address these challenges and build long-term support, the Lethbridge Polytechnic Board of Governors has committed $500,000 in matching funds for new student award endowments.

This strategic initiative encourages philanthropic investment by matching eligible gifts, dollar for dollar. The result: greater impact for donors and increased access to financial support for students—now and in the future.

How the matching works

  • Minimum gift: $25,000
  • Maximum matched per donor: $100,000
  • Eligible funds: New endowments or new gifts to existing student award endowments
  • Match ratio: 1:1
  • Availability: First-come, first-served until the $500,000 matching fund is fully allocated

Once matched, these gifts will create at least $1 million in endowed support. This will generate approximately $17,500 in annual student awards—supporting at least 17 students every year.

What is an Endowment?

An endowment is a lasting gift—an investment in the future of Lethbridge Polytechnic and the students we serve. When you create or contribute to an endowed fund, your donation is invested, and a portion of the interest income generated each year is used to support the designated student award fund. The original gift remains untouched, ensuring long-term sustainability.

This steady source of funding strengthens our ability to ensure students have the resources they need to complete their education—even in times of uncertainty.

At its core, an endowment is more than a financial contribution—it’s a commitment to students, to community, and to the future of applied learning in southern Alberta.

Why endowments matter

An endowed gift is a powerful way to support students while building a legacy that lasts. At Lethbridge Polytechnic, many of our learners face financial or personal challenges (like being first-generation students, newcomers, or working parents) as they work toward their educational goals. Unlike annual scholarships, endowments are permanent funds that generate income each year to support students. As the fund grows, so does the award value.

  • Sustainable support: Endowments generate reliable annual returns
  • Long-term impact: Awards are funded in perpetuity
  • Increased access: More students can benefit from financial support

Whether you’re an alum, a community partner or a friend of the institution, your contribution to an endowed fund helps to remove barriers and create life-changing opportunities for students—today and into the future.

If you’re considering a gift of $25,000 or more to support students at Lethbridge Polytechnic, your gift can go twice as far. To explore opportunities or confirm your gift’s eligibility for matching:
