Lethbridge Polytechnic announces Honouring Excellence 2026 winners

Lethbridge Polytechnic has named four outstanding alumni as this year’s Honouring Excellence award winners. Recipients include Distinguished Alumni Darryl Jarina (Renewable Resource Management 1999), Career Virtuoso David Muryn (Business Administration – Accounting 1999), Community Leader Tristin Mercer (Business Administration – Management 2011) and Rising Star Ivan Djomengi (Computer Information Technology 2019).
Polytechnic researchers develop faster, non-destructive way to detect natural toxins in potatoes

In Canada, potatoes are the fifth-largest primary agricultural commodity and one of the most extensively cultivated vegetable crops. At the Advanced Post-harvest Technology Centre (APHTC) within Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE), researchers are working to ensure every spud that ends up on the dinner table is the healthiest one possible.
Lethbridge Polytechnic golf tournament slated for August

After a successful return last year, the Lethbridge Polytechnic’s golf tournament presented by KB Heating, Plumbing and Air Conditioning will tee off again Aug. 27. Held at the Lethbridge Country Club, the community-favourite event will raise funds for Kodiaks student-athlete scholarships.

Tecconnect Challenge gives students real-world creative pitch experience
A real client with a real business challenge will anchor a hands-on learning experience for Lethbridge Polytechnic students Wednesday, as teams from the Multimedia Production (MMP) and Digital Communications and Media (DCM) programs take on the Tecconnect Challenge.

Lethbridge Polytechnic plumber apprentice taking his skills to WorldSkills Competition
For the second year in a row, Kylar Bloomberg (third year, Plumber Apprentice) has earned silver at Skills Canada. The national competition was held May 29 and 30 in Regina, Sask. Bloomberg will now go on to represent Canada at the 2026 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, as the gold-medal winner does not meet the age requirement.
Lethbridge Polytechnic student to support federal election coverage during Troy Reeb Internship
First-year Digital Communications and Media (DCM) student Jody-Ann Smikle has earned the Troy Reeb Internship thanks to an article she wrote about student financial literacy. Smikle is the 20th recipient of this prestigious award, and only the third first-year student to be selected.
Agriculture Sciences grad named first Lethbridge Polytechnic valedictorian
Agriculture Sciences – Agronomy student, Abigayle (Abby) Terrill, has been named valedictorian of the first class to graduate from Lethbridge Polytechnic. She will lead the procession of graduates and speak at the afternoon ceremony planned for 2 p.m. May 23 in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
