Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Marketing, Communications and External Engagement team has been recognized for its work on Wider Horizons, the institution’s alumni and community magazine. The Winter, Spring and Fall 2024 issues received a total of 11 industry awards on the provincial, regional and international level. 

Lethbridge Polytechnic is now accepting nominations for Honouring Excellence 2026. Established in 1992, these awards recognize distinguished alumni who, through their perseverance and leadership, have made exceptional contributions to their professions and communities.

Lethbridge Polytechnic has joined the inaugural consortium for the AI Workforce Readiness (AIWR) program — a national initiative led by Amii (Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute), one of Canada’s three national AI centres and a recognized leader in AI literacy.

As innovation becomes increasingly ingrained in agricultural practices, researchers are finding new ways to balance growth and sustainability in a rapidly evolving industry. Dr. Emmanual Nai, research associate with Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, is leading a project aimed at improving the sustainability of aquaculture operations with canola byproducts.

Lethbridge Polytechnic is ready to celebrate its fall graduates at Convocation this weekend. Nearly 570 students are receiving degrees, diplomas, certificates and apprenticeship credentials this month and more than 220 of them are expected to cross the stage on Saturday.

Computer Information Technology (CIT) student Mary Lou Masculino has been named valedictorian for Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Fall 2025 Convocation. Originally from Victorias City, Philippines, Masculino arrived in Lethbridge in July 2023 as an international student. 

Lethbridge Polytechnic has received $450,000 from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada for an applied research project to develop virtual reality (VR) experiences for youth interested in public safety careers. 

More than 70 first-year students in Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Natural Resource Compliance program traded their classroom for the coulees earlier this month and contributed hundreds of plant and animal observations to a growing community database.

As part of an instructor-led research project, five research students in Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Digital Communications and Media (DCM) and Multimedia Production (MMP) program have helped their classmates use virtual reality (VR) to reduce anxiety and stress related to public speaking.

From input costs to water usage and crop rotations, technology is transforming how producers plan for the future. At Lethbridge Polytechnic, Research Associate Dr. Selin Karatepe is using advanced data modelling to create virtual tools that help farmers weigh every variable.
