We offer faculty a variety of services to support your teaching and research goals. We can assist you with everything from reserving items for your class to purchasing new materials to adding resources to Canvas.

Integrated Supports - Integrated (embedded) Librarians and more...

The Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation is working with Student Advising to offer a full suite of integrated supports. Integrated specialists—librarians, academic strategists and academic advisors—provide resources, host discussions, send timely email reminders, and provide other student supports from within courses.

Classes with a high research or paper-writing component would be ideal candidates for integrated librarians; they will work in Canvas and provide direct services to students, answering questions about research, citation, etc., so that the instructor can focus on other crucial conversations. They can either be integrated for the whole class or just for some weeks before large assignments.

Library orientation sessions are individual sessions that can either stand on their own or be part of an overall integrated librarian's services. They are designed to orient students on the research process and the library resources available to them (especially for new students) or specialized resources and research processes (for advanced or specialized classes). In many cases, these sessions are best paired either in the first few weeks of a course and/or a few weeks before large assignments are due, but we will work with you to customize them to your specific needs.

Circulation services

It’s vital to have the right materials for your courses or research. Circulation services can make that happen. Use our services to:

  • place high-demand items on reserve for your students
  • sign out materials
  • access Scantron materials and assistance

If you can’t find what you are looking for, fill out an interlibrary loan request. We can obtain books, journal articles, DVDs and more from other libraries for you.

Collection development

We purchase supplemental materials for courses offered at the polytechnic. You can request appropriate books, DVDs and CDs for the library collection using our online order forms. For larger requests, such as databases or special items, contact us through email.

Reserve Collection

Instructors can place high demand or specialized library materials, personal items, or almost anything else on reserve for students.  Reserve loan periods are customizable as needed, but most reserve items have loan periods of a few hours, a few days, or 1 week.  For more information call 403-320-3352.

Curriculum development

We can help you add and/or replace resources in your courses and locate resources on topics linked to courses you are developing or teaching. For more information on curriculum development, contact our reference staff online through chat or email. For assistance with adding links for articles, eBooks or videos to your Canvas course, contact the information desk.

You can also find support for integrating Open Educational Resources (OERs) in the library and throughout CTLI; if you want to get started on that, however, we've organized some of the best places out there for you to find OERs here.

The Alberta Library Card

The Alberta Library is a province-wide consortium aimed at providing Albertans with access to materials and information resources in all libraries without additional registration fees. Visit us at the Circulation Desk to obtain your card.
