  • About us

The Buchanan Library is the hub of learning at Lethbridge Polytechnic. Known by its Blackfoot name, Niitsitapi’ksimpstaan (“Real Thinking”), gifted by Kainai Kaahsinnoonik (Grandparent) Peter Weasel Moccasin, the name celebrates the learning journey of the students who use the space.

We support students, staff, and members of the broader community with their information, research, and study needs. Whether you’re looking for scholarly resources, a space to work, or expert advice on your assignments and research projects, we’re here to help.

Our Space & Collections

  • Study Spaces: Quiet study, collaborative spaces, breakout rooms, individual pods, and flexible seating areas to suit your study style. Book a room online or use the self-serve kiosks in the library. Please be aware of any posted guidelines for specific spaces, such as the Quiet Study Space, and follow any terms of use provided when booking rooms.
  • Collections: Access to millions of resources — print books, eBooks, academic journals, streaming media, library research databases, and unique holdings like the Buchanan Art Collection.
  • Special Resources: Course reserves, borrow-a-textbook program, and specialty items like anatomy models and calculators.
  • Technology & Equipment: Desktop computers, laptops available for 4-hour loans, power banks, printing, VR headsets, and other resources to support learning.

In the Library

The Buchanan Library is a shared space for learning, collaboration, and quiet study. We ask everyone to help maintain a respectful environment by being mindful of noise, using shared spaces considerately, and treating others with courtesy.
