Microbes are responsible for major infectious diseases, but have beneficial functions helping in digestion, producing antibiotics, producing dairy products, and enhancing agriculture creating Social issues such as food and water safety, antibiotic resistance, bioterrorism, pandemic. Students learn how to grow and control microorganisms, the importance of vaccines and antibiotic therapy, the antibiotic crisis and the precautions to take to avoid going back to the pre-antibiotic era. Discuss microbiology case studies in the context of their impacts on society. Not available for supplemental.
