Q: What are the polytechnic’s hours of operations?

A: There’s no one answer – many departments have varying hours and summer often brings reduced hours as we enjoy the sun. Typically, most departments are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Q:  I’d like to come to campus, but don’t know where to park. Can you help me? 

A:  Our spacious campus has ample parking, so wherever you are coming from, there’s a parking spot for you. 

Not sure where to park? Find your lot on the parking map. 

You’ll find daily paid visitor parking in lot O. Daily permits purchased here and in lot B are valid in any student lot. Rates are $2 for four hours and $4 for eight hours.  

There is also visitor parking in the front loop at the main entrance to the polytechnic. Parking here is available for a maximum of 45 minutes. Permits can be purchased at the parking metres in the loop. 

ProTip: Save time with the app HonkMobile – it allows you to pay and park in any of our student or daily paid lots.

Run by the students from the Culinary Arts diploma program, the Garden Court Restaurant offers a variety of menus throughout the year, including a lunch express, buffets, gala dinners and evening dining. 

Culinary students experience an authentic restaurant business environment as they overcome the challenges of day-to-day operations. They tackle everything from developing menus to costing, purchasing and preparing food items to customer service and human resource management. 

You, the diner, make this training experience possible simply by enjoying a delicious meal prepared with local ingredients in a beautiful setting.

Q: Do you have any fitness and workout opportunities for the community?

A: Open to the community as well as all students and staff, our modern facilities have something for people of all ages, interests and abilities. We also have classes offered by Be Fit For Life, which are open to the public as well.

The Val Matteotti gymnasium is comprised of three full-size gymnasiums and seats up to 2,000 people. It’s the heart of Recreation Services and is home to major collegiate and community sporting events throughout the year. We also have a fitness centre, two international squash courts, two interchangeable racquetball/squash courts, a fitness-testing centre, a dance studio and steam rooms.

Q:  Can I rent the gym or some other space on campus for my special event?  

A:  Yes! Recreation Services offers several facilities for rent. If you're hosting a tournament, conference, grad ceremony or other special event, we can accommodate you. 

Facilities that are available to rent include: 

  • Val Matteotti Gymnasium (a three court, full-size gymnasium with seating for 2,000) 
  • two international squash courts 
  • two interchangeable squash/racquetball courts 
  • dance studio 

We have hosted many national sports tournaments and conferences as well as graduation ceremonies. 

Birthday parties 

In addition, we have just what you need to host a fun, stress-free birthday party. Guests can get out of your house and into one of our gyms with unlimited access to floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, badminton and more. Choose your activities and we’ll bring the fun. 

After an hour in the gym, the party can move down the hall to the LPSA Cave for cake, presents or even a dance party. To book your party, contact us at 403-320-3202 ext. 5753 or request a booking.

Q: I need someone to supervise an exam, and was told the polytechnic could help. Who do I contact? 

A: Most exams written with Testing Services can be booked online. If you have questions, contact the team in Testing Services. Staff members there can supervise exams for professional associations for accreditation as well as for distance exams from other educational institutions, General Educational Development (GED) tests, Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) and more.  

Professional accreditation

We provide students and members of the community with various types of exam services to accommodate a wide variety of paper- and computer-based testing, including: 

  • certification exams 
  • typing skills assessment 
  • TOWES (the Test of Workplace Essential Skills) 

To write one of these certifications exams, you must register with the professional association prior to writing your exam on the scheduled date(s); review the complete list of Testing Rules and Regulations before your exam date; and bring photo ID to your exam. 

Distance exams from other educational institutions

If you are taking courses from or applying to other post-secondary institutions, Testing Services can supervise your exam. We’re able to supervise both paper- and computer-based exams, but you will need to make arrangements with the college or university to release the exam to Testing Services. Once they’ve agreed to release the exam, you can book your appointment online or by contacting our office. 

Appointments must be booked at least one business day in advance and a photo ID is required at the time of testing. Please review the complete list of Testing Rules and Regulations prior to booking your appointment. 

CELPIP

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a fully computer-delivered English language testing program. It measures competency in four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The CELPIP comes in three versions, two of which are offered at the polytechnic: 

  • The CELPIP-General measures all four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada accepts it as proof of English language knowledge for those applying for permanent residency. 
  • The CELPIP-General LS measures two skills: listening and speaking. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada accepts it as proof of English language knowledge for those applying for Canadian citizenship.

Lethbridge College summer camps will teach skills, keep children and teenagers active, and create comradery among campers.

Whether it is hands-on skills like carpentry or welding, eye-opening exploration of the ecosystem around them, using the latest technologies to create video games or animation, getting the body moving through dance, learning mountain biking skills, or taking part in sport camps designed by Kodiaks coaches, there is something for everyone.

Our history

The creation of our country’s first publicly-funded community polytechnic and our beautiful campus was the result of an impressive collaboration between educators and school districts in the city and in the surrounding rural areas. With hard work and determination, they joined forces to make sure everyone with the desire to learn had access to a relevant, high quality education, right here, close to home.

For more than six decades, we’ve been doing just that, as we’ve worked to lead and transform education in Alberta through our innovative programs, our hands-on learning opportunities and our ability to meet the needs of industry and our community. We are currently ranked one of Canada’s top 50 research colleges, and 95 per cent of our grads say they were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of teaching in their program (while 95 per cent of employers were satisfied or very satisfied with the performance of our grads).

The community has shaped the polytechnic into the innovative institution it is today.
