Perry Stein was appointed to the Lethbridge College Board of Governors for three-year term beginning Dec. 13, 2022.

Stein (MA, BA) is an urban planner, engagement professional and truth and reconciliation practitioner, and holds a Master of Arts degree in Latin American Studies (2011) and a Graduate Certificate in Development and Sustainability (2011) from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban and Regional Studies (2009) from the University of Lethbridge.

Throughout his career, Stein has worked with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to advance strong community planning and public engagement, following principles of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility. As an avid applied researcher, he has contributed to the fields of urban planning, heritage management, reconciliation and Indigenous community engagement, through publications, conference presentations and guest lectures locally and internationally. Stein’s work has been recognized by several of his peer groups, including fellow planners, the Government of Alberta, members of the Niitsitapi | Blackfoot and Métis communities, and he is the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the Blackfoot name Miistaksi’piitaa (Mountain Eagle) from Lethbridge College Kaahsinnoonik (Grandparent) Peter Weasel Moccasin.

Stein currently works with the City of Lethbridge in the Opportunity Lethbridge department as Project Planning Lead. In this role, he focuses on complex economic and social issues related to urban development and redevelopment. He also currently leads the City’s Community Lab Applied Study initiative, which integrates post-secondary students into real-world community planning projects.

Stein brings several skills to the board, including collaboration, team building, strategic planning and an expertise in reconciliation, inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility.

Stein lives in Lethbridge with his wife Chantelle Fitton and their three young children.
