Welcome to the Centre for Justice and Human Services’ (CJHS) webpage. Designed to connect you to our Centre, this page will provide you with valuable insights, whether you are a prospective student, current student, alumni, community member or one of our valued partners.
The CJHS is dedicated to preparing students to be change-makers within their community. Students embark on this journey from the moment they begin their program of study. We strive to present opportunities and experiences that allow students to engage with enhancing the quality of life for members of their community while undertaking their studies. For example, students involved in our Lethbridge Polytechnic LEO Club contribute hundreds of hours of community service each year.
Whether our students are studying on our campus or elsewhere as a distance learner, our centre provides a vibrant learning community for each of them. Our robust menu of online courses provides learners with maximum flexibility as they strive to meet their learning goals. Our exceptional faculty team bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to all our learning spaces. Throughout their academic journey, students have the opportunity to participate in many work-integrated and competency-based learning activities, including the opportunity to pursue international learning experiences.
Every member of the CJHS team is dedicated to student success and strives daily to provide a rich, nurturing and stimulating learning experience for each of our students.

Centre Spotlight
NSERC 1 Million Public Safety Research Grant
Lethbridge Polytechnic has received the largest social sciences research grant in its history, as $1 million in federal research funding will kickstart the college’s public safety applied research program. The funding will allow the college’s researchers to engage with industry partners across policing, corrections, and courts and their associated community service providers to undertake research projects aimed at strengthening policing and public safety in Canada.

New Research Chairs Expands Public Safety
Lethbridge Polytechnic is taking a proactive approach to creating change in the public safety field and Canada’s criminal justice system, by appointing its first President’s Applied Research Chair in Public Safety. Dr. Kirsten Fantazir has been chosen for the role and will work directly with partners to identify knowledge, skill and research gaps in the Canadian public safety industry and create potential solutions.

School of Human Services
Our students in the Early Childhood Education, Education Assistant, and Child and Youth Care programs bring their love of helping children and youth to gain three critical tools they’ll use in their working lives. By working from the heart to highly skilled practice, they’ll develop essential skills, acquire critical knowledge, and put their skills in action in a variety of work integrated opportunities.
School of Justice Studies
Our three School of Justice Studies programs prepare students for rewarding and demanding careers within the public safety field. Students develop essential skills and knowledge in the classroom that they put into action in various scenario-based learning activities. Learn how to enhance the quality of life within your community.
School of Public Safety
Our certificate program – Police Cadet Certificate uses a competency-based model and was developed in close collaboration with our Policing partners.
Inclusive Post-Secondary Education
Inclusive Post-Secondary Education offers students with developmental disabilities the opportunity to have an authentic post-secondary experience and participate fully in campus life. Students are supported in taking college level courses, participating in campus activities and groups, gaining volunteer work experience in their community and, ultimately, obtaining meaningful employment.

School of Justice Studies Networking Day
Students from the Criminal Justice – Policing and Correctional Studies diploma programs get a chance to mingle with representatives of 23 public safety organizations and agencies from across western Canada at the semi-annual Networking Day.
This is an opportunity for public safety organizations to meet with students to provide information about their agencies, including details about employment opportunities and application processes. This event is of tremendous value to our students and also benefits participating agencies.
National Child Day
National Child Day is celebrated across Canada on November 20th each year to recognize the united Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child. This year, we celebrated National Child Day at Lethbridge Polytechnic on November 18th. Lethbridge Plays partnered with 20 child and youth-focused organizations to host a free family event. The theme for this year is "Inclusion for Every Child:. Every child has the right to be treated fairly, no matter where they live, the colour of their skin, their abilities, their religion, language or gender.
